Google Introduces “Query Groups” in Search Console Insights. This AI-powered tool automatically groups similar search queries, helping you see the bigger picture of what users are looking for.
You’ve undoubtedly seen many variations of the same query or keyword in your Search Console statistics, what users actually desire may be challenging. By grouping related questions into distinct categories, Query Groups seeks to address this issue and help you better understand search intent and produce more targeted, useful information.
Query Groups in Search Console Insights use AI to automatically cluster similar search queries, helping website owners see the main topics and interests that drive traffic instead of sifting through long lists of near-duplicate keywords.
The new “Queries leading to your site” card presents three key insights: overall group performance, showing the total clicks each query cluster receives; a list of individual queries within each group, organized by clicks with the top-performing terms displayed first; and a drill-down option that lets users explore detailed performance reports for every query in a cluster.
This new feature makes it simpler to determine what people are searching for and to organize content around those insights by providing a more lucid, high-level perspective of search behavior.
The Trending Data card in Search Console Insights helps you track which topics are gaining or losing interest. It organizes query groups into three main categories for easy analysis.
Top groups highlight the clusters that receive the most clicks overall, giving you a quick look at your strongest performers.
Trending up shows the groups that have seen the biggest growth in clicks compared to the previous period, helping you spot rising topics.
Meanwhile, Trending down points out the groups where clicks have dropped the most, so you can identify areas that may need attention. It’s easy to see what’s getting traction, what’s working, and what might be losing audience interest thanks to this tool.
According to Google, this feature is primarily for sites with high query volumes, since smaller sites with fewer searches won’t benefit as much from grouping. Over the coming weeks, Query Groups will be progressively introduced as a new card in Search Console Insights.
The AI-powered groupings provide a continuously updated view of search trends because they are dynamic and may alter over time as fresh data is analyzed. Google stresses that Query Groups do not affect your site’s rankings; rather, they are designed to give a high-level picture of search activity.
