Andrew Tulloch isn’t new to the AI world—before Thinking Machines, he made his mark at OpenAI and helped shape research at Facebook’s AI team.
On Friday, Tulloch broke the news of his exit to his team. Thinking Machines Lab later confirmed it to the Wall Street Journal, saying he’s stepping away to follow a different path for personal reasons.
Mark Zuckerberg was starting a massive hiring drive for AI expertise in August. When his attempt to purchase Thinking Machines Lab failed, he allegedly made Andrew Tulloch a hefty offer that may have totaled up to $1.5 billion over six years. The report was promptly refuted by Meta, which described it as ludicrous and untrue.
